Global warming not causing extreme weather

Warren Buffett: Global warming not causing extreme weather

Business magnate Warren Buffett contradicted a major Obama administration talking point by saying that global warming was not causing extreme weather.

The CEO of Berkshire Hathaway told CNBC that he has not changed the way his companies calculate the likelihood of a natural disaster because of global warming.

Berkshire Hathaway owns several insurance companies that often have to pay out huge claims when natural disasters strike. Environmentalists and the Obama administration have warned that global warming has caused natural disasters like hurricanes to become fiercer and more common.

But Buffett’s experience leads him to believe otherwise, saying that insuring against hurricanes in the U.S. has been a profitable venture in recent years as only a few storms have actually made landfall.

“I think that the public has the impression that because there has been so much talk about climate, that events of the last 10 years, from an insured standpoint on climate, have been unusual,” Buffett told CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” “The answer is, they haven’t.”

“You read about these events, but you read about events 30, or 40, or 50 years ago,” he added.

Buffett’s comments fly in the face of efforts by the Obama administration to tie weather events to global warming. Recently, President Obama traveled to drought-stricken California to announce his plan for a $1 billion fund to prepare communities for the impact of global warming.

“Climate change is a fact. And when our children’s children look us in the eye and ask if we did all we could to leave them a safer, more stable world with new sources of energy, I want us to be able to say, ‘Yes, we did,’” Obama said in his 2014 State of the Union Address.

But scientific evidence suggests otherwise. Research by University of Colorado climate scientist Roger Pielke, Jr. found that weather events have not been getting more extreme due to global warming.

In particular, Pielke found that hurricanes “have not increased in the U.S. in frequency, intensity or normalized damage since at least 1900.”

Pielke also noted that the costs of disasters have not been increasing either, when economic and population growth are taken into account. For example, the economic losses from floods have fallen 75 percent as a percentage of GDP since 1940.

OMG!!! Does this mean we're not all going to die?!?

It’s been snowing for hours…I’ll have to research global warming. However, in the summer we have record heat and forest fires, and no moisture. It makes no sense sadly.

    1. If Warren were to call me on the phone right now & say "This is Warren Buffet & I suggest that you buy XYZ stock, I would be on the phone within 5 second after he hung up. On the other hand I wouldn’t listen to advise on marriage, the weather, or any number of other things from him. That’s because he has only been proven better a ONE thing than any body else & that’s the stock market.
    2. The old global warming thing. Modern man hasn’t been around that long. Certainly not long enough to realize if there are 1,000 year weather patterns. We do know that there was an exceptional cold winter about 300 year ago & a lot of people starved. Other than that it’s kind of guesswork if there is such a thing as global warming. Last I heard science had don’t a large number of computer simulations to prove it & 2 of them did…after being modified several times. Oh & a lot more of the simulations didn’t show it.
    3. On the other hand the weather guys say it’s so. But here’s something odd that I have noticed. Just about every occupation that makes money from test results, turns in test result that require more tests (real odd how that works out). Then theirs quirky, funny fact that they were found guilty of faking results a while back (really odd how that worked out). So I don’t know because I don’t think that global warming is a truth (yet).
    4. Now this one is a fact. Global warming is a CAUSE & a lot of people believe in causes. Gore’s internet is full of causes (remember Gore, the guy that invented the internet? He also believe in global warming & the green agenda, BUT not enough to switch his house to solar power). Back to causes though. As I said some of them are right, but some of them are wrong, made up & total lies. Five or six years ago there was that little kid dying of brain cancer that turned out to be fake (no little kid, just greedy adults). So for me I’m going to have to wait until we actually see what’s going on with global warming. Until then I’ll do what I do that makes sense & saves me money. Oh & I’ll also stay close to the phone in case Warren wants to call & give me that stock tip.

Are we all not going to die? Well, we might, but not from Global Warming. it’s been far warmer than this in the past and civilzations thrived. But Global Cooling is something else. Let’s just hope we aren’t going in that direction.

Well, I’m not convinced the cold scenario is on and probably won’t live long enough to see it if it does happen!

The fact that the Climate Change ideologues simply assert (without any evidence or even plausible rationale) that global warming causes increased extreme weather events shows that Climate Change is a pseudoscience and their contempt for the intellectual abilities of human beings.

What about the Pole shift hypothesis – maybe the temperature and climate remain pretty steady but the earth itself moves – could account for the fact that the UK has had weather ranging from the Arctic Cold to the that similar to the African Plains over the many thousands upon thousands of years.

    1. EZWAYZ

well, the poles certainly are migrating so anything is possible

      May 26, 2014
      1. bowman

from 1982 to 2005, the pole moved roughly 6 centimeters per year one way and since then has been going in a different direction at about 28 centimeters per year – if it keeps up at this rate Ez you could be standing on the North Pole where you live in a few million years!………………perhaps we could have a Pole Shift tax – just in case the Green Taxes aren’t making enough money

        1. EZWAYZ

well if you keep talking about it they’ll catch on quick enough!

Yes, the poles are definitely shifting.

      May 26, 2014
      1. bowman

so what do you reckon wirelessguru…………………….could it all be Pole shift hypothesis?

        May 26, 2014
        1. wirelessguru1

We just entered a new (ICE) age and the poles are indeed shifting.
I’ve been posting about this for awhile now.
So the ice will melt from the prior poles and will then reform as the new poles become stable…

YES. Man-made global warming is indeed a hoax, a scam, a desperate way for the Gov’t to try to raise new CO2 taxes!

Global warming is not causing extreme weather. The connotation is wrong for the global weather. The extreme heat is caused by custom term paper writing service for the information on extreme weather.

Warren is talking from an insurance standpoint. as the article link mentioned global warming isn’t causing more severe weather.
    .
In a Senate hearing Thursday, environmental scientist Roger Pielke of the University of Colorado said it’s “incorrect” to claim that global warming is spurring more extreme weather disasters.

“It is misleading and just plain incorrect to claim that disasters associated with hurricanes, tornadoes, floods or droughts have increased on climate timescales either in the United States or globally,” Pielke said in his testimony before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “It is further incorrect to associate the increasing costs of disasters with the emission of greenhouse gases.”

“Hurricanes have not increased in the U.S. in frequency, intensity or normalized damage since at least 1900,” Pielke added. “The same holds for tropical cyclones globally since at least 1970.”
